The Education and Lifelong Learning Thematic Group has changed to become the Children and Families Strategy Group
This new amalgamated group which was established from the merger of the CPP Education and Lifelong Learning (E&LL) Thematic Group and the Joint Strategy Group (JSG) for Children’s Services.
The JSG and the CPP E&LL Thematic Group both carried out key strategic planning and monitoring functions (within the Council and within the CPP framework). The merger of the two groups will strengthen this planning and monitoring role.
The rationale for the merger is to reduce duplication, streamline the strategic planning functions and to make better use of the human resources available in terms of senior officers, elected members and representatives of the community forums.
Changes to the structure of this thematic group were approved by the CPP Strategic Board in November 2011. For CPP reporting requirements, this is currently the main strategic multi-agency partnership group.
This new arrangement fits with the current SOA priority, Supporting Children and Families, as well as with the current focus on early intervention/prevention and better integration of services.
The inaugural meeting of the new strategic group took place on 27 March 2012. Under the new arrangements, the membership of the Children and Families Strategy group currently consists of 17 places. This group has enhanced accountability through having places for elected member and Community Forum representatives.
CPP investment under this theme currently supports 4 programmes:
- Support for Children and Families
- More Choices More Chances (MCMC)
- Youth Services
- Physical Activity
The adult learning element has now been aligned with Works and Benefits priority and will be reported through the Regenerating and Growing our Local Economy thematic group.
All of these four programmes also make contribution to all of the other key themes within Community Planning. A programme is a set of projects designed to meet public need. The need the above three programmes are design to meet relate to the local outcomes laid out in the West Dunbartonshire Single Outcome Agreement 2011 - 2014.
